“Cures What Ails Ya”
Rustic white oak, ash, milk paint, tung oil, hard wax
A tribute to traditional maritime folk band The Longest Johns’ rendition of the song Oak & Ash & Thorn, this cabinet it made from two of the three titular lumbers and painted green as homage to the cover art for the Cures What Ails Ya album to which the song belongs. While on display at the Hickman Gallery, the cabinet also featured a collection of empty medicine vials in a glass jar as a nod to the maritime motif of a “ship in a bottle.” Now, it serves as my medicine cabinet, and I have plans to remake the sliding door to include the third and final timber species.
